How To Get Cold Proof

“To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold” – Aristotle I see everywhere during winter commercials for cold medicine and the usual advice to dress up well and avoid the outdoors. The daily temperature difference of the springtime puts a toll on our health. One would wonder how we made it through over 2 and a half million winters. We were cold adapted. This is one of the missing links to great health. Cold is deeply linked to our genetics and we even have a reflex for it. It’s called mammalian...

Diet vs. Regular

This article is not about aspartame. Peter,  a new friend of mine, was waiting anxiously for me at the table as he needed to go and pack for his travel.  I can say I was a bit late and he was half way through his glass of coke. With a smile he’s asking me if I was fine. I can say I was happy that he wasn’t mad. I asked for some water and he automatically replies ” You know, now I drink diet coke just from time to time,  randomly…  Is it better?” I had to tell him...

Natural control over blood pressure

One early morning while cutting though the florescent light of a lab waiting room I couldn’t help hearing a heated discussion on blood pressure and how narrow is the view of the medical system if this parameter goes a little bit over. It is shocking that somebody can lose their job over it. The narrow options given to the doctors are only leading to a lifetime treatment. The old “start to exercise” advice is lingering as the last hope of a holistic approach to an unknowing issue. The only option for the western medicine to treat this effect was...

Fighting cold with cold

I see everywhere during winter commercials for cold medicine and the usual advice to dress up well and avoid the outdoors. One would wonder how we made it through over 2 and a half million winters. Simple, we were cold adapted. This is one of the missing links to great health. Cold is deeply linked to our genetics and we even have a reflex for it. It’s called mammalian diving reflex. We have inherit it from the small mammals that strived to survive in a cold environment after the event that eradicated the dinosaurs. We can use this reflex in our favor to stay healthy in winter time. I have tried it on myself and I didn’t get a cold this year. It is simple to put in practice and it takes very little time. Dipping in cold water the paranasal area (nose and forehead) for a ten to twenty seconds repeatedly until the skin is getting slightly red activates the reflex. This is preparing the body to adapt to a cold environment and but also for the lack of oxygen. There are a few important effects to mention. First the blood pressure will  drops down while most of the blood moves to protect the internal organs. Blood vessels constrict in hands and feet pushing the blood out and leaving behind structured or crystalline water also know as EZ...

Seasonal Life 2: Food – Light – Weight Gain Connection

Why food has become so important lately? What food and light has in common? Why we gain weight so fast when cheating on the diet? How to balance your metabolism and get some control back? Why dieting “forever” is bad for you? I have started this series in first Seasonal Life post with the food and diet approach. Food is modulating our hormonal system and gut flora and with it the immune system. This means food is bringing information in to the body. Every bite is telling a story of our environment. Processed foods gives a skewed image of...
